La Cañada is the name of a series of concert guitars that are entirely dedicated to the legacy of the legendary Don Antonio de Torres and his ingenious guitars. The two La Cañada makers, renowned guitar builder Edmund Blöchinger and guitar/tonewood expert Wolfgang Jellinghaus, have developed guitars based on world-famous Torres originals that honor the work of the Stradivari of guitar making:
The Model 17 is a tribute to the instrument that Francisco Tárrega, the innovator of the Spanish concert guitar, played and made famous. The prototype comes from Don Antonio de Torres’ first building period and therefore bears the additional name “FE” for “First Epoch”.
The Model 115, on the other hand, honors the guitar from the second building period that was played by Tárrega’s master student Emilio Pujol and before that by his wife, Mathilde Ruiz. This model is accordingly labeled with the abbreviation SE for “Second Epoch”.
Edmund Blöchinger was able to examine and measure the prototypes in great detail. Based on his results, he created meticulous construction plans according to which the La Cañada guitars are created in a small manufactory in China by experienced guitar makers with the greatest possible care according to the rules of the art of guitar making. The La Cañada guitars are entirely up to date: only CITES-free woods of the best quality are used – for example, Swiss Alpine spruce for the tops – and all instruments are sealed with a hand-polished shellac finish.
The La Cañada guitars are available in various versions: Model 17 comes in four, Model 115 in two variants – including a very elaborate antique version for each.
