Pepe-Romero Strings

“The price-performance ratio of these professional string sets is undoubtedly excellent” IZ 2/2017

Pepe Romero Jr. is not only the son of Spanish guitar superstar Pepe Romero, but also an outstanding guitar and ukulele maker. To ensure his creations sound appropriate, the luthier also developed matching strings. In collaboration with the renowned American string manufacturer La Bella, outstanding strings for ukuleles as well as concert and flamenco guitars have been created, tailored to the needs of professional musicians.

The ukulele strings for instruments with high G and low G tuning are made from Japanese fluorocarbon and manufactured according to Pepe Romero Jr.’s specifications at the La Bella factory in the USA. These strings are an excellent choice, especially for ukulele players who prefer demanding solo arrangements. Fluorocarbon provides a powerful, assertive basic sound with the best intonation even in the highest positions. The Pepe Romero Jr. strings significantly enhance the sound of simple instruments, while providing that decisive bit of extra tone for high-quality instruments.

The Pepe Romero Jr Strings for concert and flamenco guitars include six different string sets that ingeniously combine tradition and modernity:

The “R” in GRN and GRNM stands for “Rectified Nylon” and describes treble strings made of nylon with a roughened surface. The legendary guitar quartet Los Romeros, with which Pepe Romero Sr. rose to stardom, preferred treble strings of this type: In addition to superior intonation and high serial consistency, the Spanish grandmasters see “Rectified Nylon” as the key to the legendary Romero tone.

The PEPSR set is different, as in this case the treble strings are made of crystal-clear nylon. These strings, developed jointly by father and son Romero, are based on an older nylon formula and bring the dark, warm tone of New Spanish guitar playing from the previous century into the present.

The GCNM set is especially recommended for studio recordings, with its crystal-clear nylon treble strings. These have a completely smooth surface, effectively suppressing extraneous noises during position changes, glissandi, and slurs. In terms of sound, they are more modern-oriented than the PEPSR set.

Adherents of the Romantic era and its instruments will find the ideal string with GLOW, the only set with low tension: Tailored to the more delicately built New Spanish masterpieces Ă  la Torres, Ramirez, or Esteso, it evokes the sound aesthetics of Tarrega and Llobet. Furthermore, the GLOW set is also an insider tip for flamenco guitarists who prefer lightly built instruments.

The GFH set, on the other hand, is entirely committed to modernity: Its treble strings made of fluorocarbon provide a particularly powerful and brilliant sound, especially appreciated by soloists. These excellently intonated strings additionally support the power of contemporary masterpieces – a top choice for the modern musician.
